Looking for tips on how to store your Christmas decorations? Tired of untangling baubles let alone the fairy lights? Help is here! Once the Twelfth Night appears and we all rush to take down our decs, this time - take your time. Invest in a few key storage pieces so that your future self next year will be oh-so-happy. You can buy boxes with inserts for your precious decorations, bags for your faux tree and awesome hanging solutions for your wrap! Here's what we are buying for the December 2021 versions of ourselves to make life a whole lot easier for them...
1. Use tissue paper to wrap up glass baubles
If you have precious baubles that are delicate and made from glass, then then extra care is needed. Wrap each one up in tissue paper – give it as many layers as you like, and then pop them in a basket. If you don’t have one then a great hack is to use an egg carton, the thick cardboard surround will protect your decorations and if they are small enough you can pop the lid on.
2. Roll up your ribbons
If you’re lucky enough to receive presents wrapped in beautiful ribbons then keep them and roll them up to use next year on someone else's – just remember who gave them to you first! You can fasten each one with a piece of washi tape to keep them rolled up for the rest of the year.
3. Reuse your fairy lights
Important PSA - fairy lights are not just for Christmas! They can delight us all year round so when you take them off the tree you can wrap them around your stairs, attach them around a door frame or pop them on a shelf. That way you don’t have to pack them away and deal with the Big Untangle next year – win win!
4. Invest in specific storage
You can actually get storage that’s designed specifically for Christmas decorations – how great right? This clever box stores up to 30 baubles and it comes with two stiff cardboard divider trays that each hold 15 baubles, another bonus is that the box folds up when not in use so it can be packed away during the Christmas season.
5. Use the back of your door
This fabulous door and wall rack will answer all of gift wrap storage prayers – and not just the Christmas ones. It’s completely modular so you can make it work to suit your needs - there are baskets for tape and scissors, and a section for all of your rolls of paper. You can hang the whole unit using the over-the-door clip or screw it directly to the wall or door.
