We've spent a fair bit of time in the John Lewis lighting department this morning, probably because we actually had to turn on a light this morning for the first time in six months. A nice little reminder that winter is well and truly here.
But we are trying something new this year and not going to spend all of winter mourning for warmer climes. Instead, we're going to embrace the change in seasons, embrace the shorter days, embrace the Pumpkin Spice everything and (of course) embrace lovely cosy interiors.
So to practise what we preach, we've found the most gorgeous John Lewis lighting from their latest range and come up with some rather clever ways you can use it to give your home and seasonal, wintery update...
1. Pick a ceiling light that adds subtle colour
Ceiling lights, or pendant lights as they are sometimes known as can be a striking addition to your space. They work in hallways, landings, bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms and kitchens - use them to add colour and style to your scheme! The Lisbeth from John Lewis is an easy-to-fit shade in mustard that has a gently curved, double-layered design that will provide a subtle warm light to your room.

2. Choose a bedside light to bring in some Mid-century style
If you love mid-century design then the sturdy brushed brass Leaf table lamp from John Lewis’s lighting range will tick all of your boxes. The key to a good table lamp is adjustability - you want to be able to move the arm and shade for maximum reading comfort when you are chilling out in bed. The cone-shaped shade on this lamp will help to direct the light to where you need it most.

3. Make a floor lamp a feature in your home
Reminiscent of 70s style arc floor lamps that swept the nation, this No.168 arched floor lamp from the Design Project range at John Lewis lighting will certainly create a statement in your dining room or living room. It has a sweeping arched arm that has a linen-effect black shade. Balanced by a small marble base that you can slide under armchairs, this light is ideal if you love a contemporary scheme and want to add that perfect finishing touch to your space.
4. Add a touch of the traditional to your lighting scheme
One way to get the most out of your lighting is to buy a base that you love and change the shade as and when you update your scheme. The Robyn bottle glass lamp base from John Lewis’s lighting range will certainly be your flexible friend. The classic shaped base will enable you to use a timeless or modern shade, here, the pleated shade creates a more trad look but a smooth design would look more modern.
5. Save space with wall lighting
Wall lights are a really useful way to add an extra layer of lighting, we don’t all want to use the Big Light do we? You can create a relaxing feel with a couple of wall lights and table lamps used together. These Spoke pink and brass wall lights from the House by John Lewis lighting range are uber stylish and will look great in any room, you can use them either way up depending on where you want to direct the light.
