I have a lot of DIY projects going on in my house, and at any given time I can have entire forests of lumber sitting around my workshop. A good timber rack helps save space, as well as keeping my timber from warping, or getting ruined by laying on the floor. We took some great timber racks on a test drive to see which would be best for you.

Best overall

Elevated and secure

The best place for all your wood is off the floor. Having a good-sized rack like the Bora wood organizer is a great way to store beams and off-cuts of planks and, with a 600-pound weight limit, you can store a fair amount of wood too.

The only downside to the Bora organizer is that it cannot hold full sheets of wood. Those will need to be stored elsewhere.

Great if wall space is limited

If your workshop or garage has no free wall space, then a standalone rack may be a good option. This rack is not only excellent for holding wood but with a 2,000-pound weight limit, you can hold steel, wood, car engines, and plastic. Whatever you need to put there, this rack can take it.

Keep it high

Perfect for high ceilings

If you are lucky enough to have high ceilings then you may have a great way to store wood available to you. While I would recommend storing sheets above head height, having a ceiling-mounted rack for your cut-offs and 2 x 4's is a great way of keeping them out of your hair.

The weight limit to this is 600 pounds though so don't overfill it, others it will be all over your hair instead of out of it.

Great for boards

Keep your wood mobile

While the other racks in this list are great for beams and cut-offs, this mobile rack is excellent for panels of plywood. Not only can all your wood be stored off the ground, but the coasters also allow you to transport it around your workshop, making loading and unloading much easier. if you have a lot of workstations around your walls, this is a good buy.

Great for wood and other things

Transporting your wood from the lumber yard to your workshop is an important part of any woodworking job, and while a lot of places deliver, the cost can be high, especially if you have multiple deliveries a month.

A good rack for your truck will quickly pay for itself and the AA-Racks ladder rack is adjustable to fit just about any truck you may have.

There is a constant battle in my workshop between me, and the mess that wants to consume me. It seems that most of my projects are me building things to put other things in. A good timber rack has really helped me to keep some of that mess organized and to clear the floors to keep me from tripping.

If you are looking for a really good wall-mounted rack then we recommend the Bora organizer. It has plenty of shelves for organizing and can be added to so you can cover a whole wall in them.
