It's Halloween! And although the trick or treating may necessarily be somewhat adapted (or off the agenda entirely) this year, you can still have the fun of dressing the entrance to your home up in traditional spooky style. Kids – and grown-ups – will appreciate the scary sight.
You don’t have to walk around your neighbourhood to see the most spine-chilling of Halloween displays and over on Insta our favourite cleanfluencer, Mrs Hinch, has shared her Halloween decorating ideas. Sophie Hinchcliffe is not only a great source of cleaning tips and advice, but she’s quite the stylist, too, and her display for Halloween doesn’t disappoint.
The cleaning guru’s Halloween spectacle is more cute than spine-chilling, we’d have to say, but with young son Ronnie to please, it’s just as well. Check out her brilliant hacks below...
How to create a Halloween display like Mrs Hinch
1. If you’re a member of the Hinch Army you’ll already know that the Insta sensation is a big fan of Home Bargains. She found two pumpkin-style buckets in there that were the perfect starting point for her 2020 display.
2. Mrs Hinch’s pumpkin buckets weren’t for sweets. The queen of clean instead found herself two foliage plants in Tesco in the perfect size to put into them. With the plants potted up, she positioned the pumpkin planters on her front windowsill.
Like the idea of creating the same effect? Any small plant with variegated foliage would work, or try ivy trailing over the side of your pot.
And if you don’t want to buy a special Halloween-themed planter, it’s not too late to make your own scary pumpkin planter display – or save the idea for next year. Just paint plain pots to create a spooky look. Terracotta pots are the ideal backdrop for a ghastly grin to create a pumpkin-style finish. You can use emulsion paint as it’s easy to work with, and tester pots needn’t cost much.

3. Of course, actual pumpkins are an essential for a seasonal display and Mrs Hinch added three to her Tesco shopping trolley. Follow her example by picking different sizes and colours to add more interest to a creepy display.
Mrs Hinch didn’t just stick to these, either, as you’ll see. She added artificial pumpkins to her display as well for a grander show.
4. A few creepy-crawlies are a vital Halloween ingredient, too. Mrs Hinch found herself a web complete with super spiders on eBay – another of her favourite places to shop.
5. Here’s Mrs Hinch’s Halloween house entrance complete with pumpkins, spider’s web and a sprinkling of autumn leaves. She added the DIY fall wreath she made last year to the front door, too, having stashed it in the loft in between times.
