The popularity of outdoor cinemas has soared over the past few months which has seen some of the best outdoor projectors fly off the shelf at eBay. The online auction site have revealed to us how quarantine culture has changed the nation’s shopping habits, and why projectors are one to watch.

In the Spring months of each year, those fortunate enough to get their hands on a Glastonbury ticket would usually be looking for the most sparkly glitter, freshest-smelling dry shampoo and most fashionable wellies they can find. But not in 2020 because of, dare we say it again, Covid-19. This outbreak has rocked the nation in more ways than one but, on the 26th May, the BBC announced the launch of a pop-up Glastonbury channel in June, to help festival-goers get their camping fix.
Unsurprisingly, the week that this was announced, searches on eBay for projectors were up by 126 per cent and, more specifically, outdoor projectors were up by 93 per cent month-on-month in May. Other high searches showed that we are getting prepared to pull up a camping chair and stream the best of Glastonbury from our gardens – camping chairs were up 47 per cent in May compared to 2019.
We can pretty much guarantee that the lovely weather we experienced (in the UK) had something to do with this, and probably the flexibility which a projector brings to not only watch programmes outdoors but indoors, too. And, if we are all to be foregoing holidays, festivals and outdoor cinema events this summer, the cost of projector is an investment it seems so is one to do a bit of research on.
