Let's be honest, we are all influenced by Instagram, whether it's the clothes to buy, the dinner to cook, the ridiculously extra makeup trend to copy or (and this is our forte) the colours to paint our rooms. Turns out, we are so inspired by what we see on the grid, that an actual survey has been done to highlight the most popular paint colours according to Instagram.

Gripped? Well, actually, we were. Who doesn't want to know exactly what colour and brand everyone on Instagram is using? So keep scrolling for what are basically the most popular paint colours of 2020 and get inspired to use them in your homes... Then find all the best interior trends 2020 in our great big fat guide.

1. Green Smoke by Farrow & Ball

Expect to see A LOT of Farrow & Ball here. It makes sense that they would be top of the most popular paints on Instagram as their paint colours are so gorgeous and unique. Green Smoke is everywhere this year, as are many sage green paints, everyone is going mad for this muted hue. It does look lovely in any style room, modern or contemporary and works in rooms that are both full of natural light and those that lack it.

2. French Grey by Little Greene

Of course there had to be a grey! Little Greene's French Grey is as classic as grey come. It's a warm tone, very neutral and would work in literally any room of the house. However, if you are after a grey that's specifically for dark or north-facing rooms, this would be a perfect choice.

We have a whole gallery dedicated to grey living room ideas, so if you are a lover of grey paint make sure you check that out too.

3. Bancha by Farrow & Ball

Ah, more Farrow & Ball, of course. This time it's in the form of Bancha, again an olivey green that is slightly brighter and more vivid than Green Smoke. We think it's got an almost retro, Mid-century modern feel to it and would look amazing with darker woods and pops of terracotta orange.

4. Sulking Room Pink by Farrow & Ball

A personal favourite of ours, Sulking Room Pink is definitely the colour we see most on Instagram. What a glorious name too, imagine having a room dedicated to sulking, if we did we would definitely want it to be pink. This is a grown-up pink, almost just like bare plaster, not to sweet or bright.

Find more pink room ideas over in our gallery.

5. Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore

A blue! A navy blue! We aren't totally surprised but nice to see a change from all those neutrals (not bashing neutrals, we love a neutral). Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore is basically the colour that everyone is painting their kitchen cabinets at the moment. Search for the hashtag #halenavy and it's not painted walls you will find it's post after post of blue kitchens.

We love the look of a blue kitchen and you can totally DIY the look too by painting your current kitchen. Just check out our guide to how to paint kitchen cabinets
