The Argos lighting sale has single-handedly proved to us that the mail order giant isn't just a destination for kids' Christmas toy shopping. And if we're really honest, the high quality and good looks of their lighting buys have taken us by surprise. Seriously, they're amazing. So, you can quite happily shop at Argos prices and get a designer look. Whispers: *no one need know you didn't buy them from a designer store, and your secret is safe with us*.

So, now you're as excited as we are, get ready to shop our edit, all (well, almost all) reduced by 25 per cent from the original, very reasonable prices! We just couldn't keep you in the dark about this one (sorry).

1. Best floorstanding light for living rooms, £37.50

Welcome the Kanso floor lamp in black, reduced from £50 to £37.50 (but could definitely pass for waaay more). The wooden detailing paired with the satin black surface of the shade and stand is giving us New York loft apartment vibes. We actually can't get over the fact that this stunning lamp is in the sale for £26.25. It's so effortlessly elegant, boasting natural tones and materials to show its simple beauty. The bubbling texture of the clear glass gives it a certain rustic feel and it's recycled glass! 4. Best dining room over-the-table light, £26.25

A smoked glass shade hung on a simple twisted cord in crisp copper? Go on then, we'll take 10. The length of the cord is 100cm but can be adjusted to 35cm. It's the ultimate modern relaxed look that interior designers love right now, and because the shade is glass you can pair it with a funky industrial style bulb PLUS the transparency of the glass means the light-throwing capabilities of the light are maximised – perfect in small or dark spaces. Looking for an industrial light shade for your kitchen but want to inject a splash of colour, too? This factory-inspired dome ceiling pendant shade is ideal for that funky utility vibe. Not keen on yellow? It comes in a whole host of on-trend colours, including neutrals. 6. Best bedroom pendant light, £18.75

Yup, this is from the same range as our first pick (and you'll see another version below). For us, it's the perfect pick for a contemporary or retro bedroom; the shade's black but the inside of it is white, so plenty of light is cast downwards; plus, the wood detailing adds much needed texture to any scheme. 7. Best bedroom table light, £30

Want something a little softer than the pick above? There's plenty of choice at Argos, but for the bedroom, we love this more curvaceous buy from the same range. The patterned base adds texture and interest while the dark fabric shade creates atmosphere. Perfect for a bedside table due to its tall, thin (and therefore space-efficient) shade, it's also fab in a living room. Suitable for dimmable bulbs, too. 8. Best desk lamp, £22.50

Back to the Kanso range, this desk lamp is the perfect blend of light and dark. With its wooden detailing and smooth satin black surface of the shade directs light to where you need it, while the white interior reflects the light to create a bright and cosy atmosphere.
