Beldray Revo Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner review

With a growing demand for handheld vacs, the Beldray Revo Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner landed at a really good time, so we couldn't wait to get our hands on it (pardon the pun).

I've been testing it for about a month now in our home, and car, and it's been challenged with all sorts of fluff, hair, dust and grim. During testing I've considered everything from how easy the small appliance is to set up to how easy it is to clean, and to get to the bottom of the whether or not it is worth the investment.

How easy is the Beldray Revo Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner to set up

Arriving in a compact cardboard box with minimal (but probably avoidable) plastic packaging, the Beldray Revo is incredibly easy to get started with.

Before first use it is advised to clean the vac with a soft, damp cloth and dry it thoroughly. It MUST then be charged for four to five hours. The charging base is very neat as it can also hold all three of the tools which the vac comes with. You'll just need to connect the mains power adaptor to the charging port, and leave it until the indicator light turns blue.

You're then ready to put it to work.

Using the Beldray Revo Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner

This handheld vac comes with three very handy tools. The crevice tool is for use on radiators, corners, recesses and other hard-to-reach areas. And the upholstery and brush tools are useful for removing dust and dirt from folds in fabrics, curtains and upholstery, as well as from shelves, cupboards and windowsills. 

And with dual speed with Boost function to boot, one would think that no challenge is too big for this appliance.

Inside the home

Set out to contend with fluff, hair, crumbs, dirt (and more) the Beldray Revo really had its work cut out. I started out on the skirting which, being of the Victorian era, has various kinks and frills with plenty of opportunity for dust to settle. It lifted this without too much of a struggle on the first mode but I found Boost made it a lot easier. This was the same case when I tackled the window sills, hearth, around the fireplace, and the sofa upholstery.

We currently have no carpet on our stairs so I thought I would give the vac a go at tackling the dust which (quickly) builds around the edges of the steps. Here, the vac fared okay on Boost mode, for which I used the crevice and brush tool. And the crevice tool also lifted dust which had settled in between the banisters of the stairs.

Outside in the car

This handheld vac is IDEAL for use in the car. The crevice tool was spot on for getting in between the sides of the car seats, and the brush tool was handy for getting around the handbrake plus all the other switches, levers and handles. However, to pick up light dust and crumbs I had it set on Boost mode and went over it a few times until I was completely satisfied.

Being lightweight, it was super easy to navigate around all the obstacles in a five-seater car BUT it found any heavier debris a little too challenging.

Anything else?

The noise took me by surprise with this one. It's pretty loud considering it's such a small thing and on Boost it sounds like it's about to take off, so it's probably not one to use first thing on a Sunday morning.

The upholstery tool has some trim around the base of it which looks neat, but it attracts fluff and hair which can be a little tricky to get rid of.

Cleaning and maintaining the Beldray Revo Cordless Handheld Vacuum Cleaner

It's recommended to regularly empty the dust container to maintain optimum performance. However, I found that I was emptying the 100ml dust container after every use (sometimes twice in one use) because not only was it looking full but the suction dived so it was no longer picking up anything from the surface.

When the dust container is removed, you can also clean the HEPA filter and Filter Cone. These can be rinsed under clean, warm water and allowed to dry naturally.

When it's time to charge the vac, the button (even on Boost) turns red – this is very handy if you get carried away vacuuming. The light will stay red when charging, and then turn blue when it is fully charged. With an operating time of 30 minutes, I found it best to stick it back onto charge at the end of each use so it's ready to go when you next need it.

What we thought about it

This handheld vac is good for lifting fluff and dust from around the home but, in our opinion, we found that it struggled with anything else. The suction could be stronger for the price and it would be helpful if it lifted hair and chunkier crumbs from surfaces. BUT, if what you are looking for is a lightweight, easy to use vac to tackle dust (and strictly dust) then this is a good choice.
