Eve Mattress Topper review
We’ve put the eve mattress topper to the test on a tired mattress – and equally tired sofa bed. Here’s how we got on...
If you’re not quite ready to part with your mattress then we / I feel that the Eve mattress topper is a great buy. It is towards the higher end of foam mattress toppers, granted, but for an instant relief from an uncomfortable mattress and disrupted sleep, this one is worth the extra pounds.

Why you can trust Real Homes
If your mattress is keeping you awake at night and you can’t quite stretch to replacing it, then the eve mattress topper could buy you some more time. You’ve probably heard of it already since it’s not a new release per-se or, indeed, you’ve heard of the brand, but have yet to take the plunge in finding out just what it is like to sleep on. So my husband and I, and our mums, have found out for you.
We’ve been using this memory foam mattress topper for several months. It was secured on our guest bed for some amount of time, before we rehomed it to make space for our (continuing) house renovations and the topper made its way onto our sofa bed which has a pull out frame and mattress. We both enjoy our sleep and since our daughter arrived earlier this year every minute counts, so we’ve been taking turns on it.

Who will the eve mattress topper suit?
Anyone with a hard mattress needing extra squish. Or if you have a tired mattress or sofa bed that needs more comfort and support.
If you don't have the budget to upgrade to the best mattress now, a topper like the eve can be a great halfway house.
Arrival and delivery
Our new mattress topper arrived within a few days of ordering during lockdown. I didn’t opt for a designated day, but this is a delivery option for a small fee.
As with all eve sleep mattresses, this foam mattress topper arrived in a recyclable cardboard box. It was a fairly compact box and it wasn’t too much of a struggle to get it into the house and up the stairs. Win.
What is the eve mattress topper like to sleep on?
A dream. Admittedly, I have been rather spoilt reviewing mattresses on our main bed so when it came to sleeping on our guest bed on one particularly bad night something (which was in our control) had to change. The mattress was a good six or seven years old – I could feel the springs – so it was in dire need of either being replaced or having another layer added to it. We opted for an extra layer and, oh my, it was SUCH a relief for our bodies.
Being foam, it’s squishy. But not so squishy that you sink down into the topper and become unable to move without a forceful roll. There’s five centimetres of it which, although isn’t the thickest of toppers out there, feels chunky and offers a good level of support for side and back sleepers. I guess this is all down to that wonderful foam eve sleep uses, which happens to be the same material which makes their award-winning eve original mattress (the one we gave five stars to).
At no point have we overheated and no sneezing has been triggered by materials as a result from using the topper. It also stays securely in place so even if you are a bit of a fidget (like I am) there is no chance of this topper coming off thanks to the straps at both ends.
It’s these straps which make it mega easy to move around so when it came to needing to move it into another room it wasn’t (too much) of an ordeal. The bottom straps are padded and secured with velcro which do a fine job of keeping the topper rolled up if you need to carry it elsewhere, or store it. It doesn’t take up too much room and is easy to roll out again as and when you need it.
Something I have noticed, however, is that the cover has become ever so slightly loose due to this continued rolling and unrolling for use on the sofa bed mattress. It would also be helpful if there was, perhaps, a cover of some sorts to put over the rolled topper when not in use, to help keep it dust-free and dirt-free. Hopefully, one day, I’ll get my dream chaise sofa bed with storage that I can keep the topper safely stowed in; it’s so versatile!
Filings, cover and care
The five centimetres of foam is not just any foam. Oh no. There are two layers of it. The first is the evecomfort foam layer which is two centimetre open-cell foam CertiPUR certified and tested to British and European quality standards. And the second (the base) is three centimetres of ultra-resilient reflex base foam.
This is all wrapped in a removable, zipped top cover which is naturally flame retardant. It’s machine washable at 40°C so you can keep it looking fresh. Just don’t bung it in the tumble dryer, as tempting as that may be.
What do you get for your money?
Alongside a two-year guarantee, eve sleep also offers a 30-night trial for you to try it out. Either way, if you’re not happy you’ll either receive a replacement or a full refund. You can often pick up some great eve mattress deals on toppers too.
Real Homes verdict: is the eve mattress topper worth it?
Yes! For 0.68p a night for a year (based on a double) it’s money worth paying. It’ll buy you more time to either research into mattresses for a little longer, or upgrade the guest bed for relatives to have a comfortable stay.
It’s easy to move around (if you need), it stays in place when you want it to and the cover is machine washable. There honestly isn’t anything negative to say about this mattress topper – it’s a good allrounder which does just what you need a foam topper to do.
