1. Mix and match plain kitchen cabinetry with a statement floor
This modern streamlined kitchen looks amazing with this checked flooring from Amtico. It’s the finishing touch so to speak, and really gives this space a contemporary edge. When you have a space this size, you can easily get away with using a checkered floor, if the kitchen was smaller, then it might look too busy visually. The styling is simple yet effective, the black-legged stools tie in with the black squares of the floor, and colour is subtly used to stop the scheme from looking stark.

2. Add instant pattern to your living room with wallpaper
Wallpaper is a great way to add pattern and you don’t need to paper all four walls, you can simply choose one! The fabulous Mini Moderns have collaborated with Albany to create two exciting wallpaper designs for Wallpaperdirect, we adore Atelier in Rose Marais shown here, its linear design is easy on the eye and a great way to subtly introduce pattern to your home.

3. Give a bathroom a bold update with patterned tiles
The beauty of these particular tiles is that they can be used on both walls and floors. So you could tile one wall and if you still yearn for more pattern you could do the floor. This Mrs Jones design from Tons of Tiles works really well with white, it helps to break up the pattern whilst not detracting from it and the black fixtures and fittings add depth. Accessorise with white or blue tiles to match.

4. Add pattern quickly with soft furnishings
Ditch the plains and add a print like these striking retro style Lilja curtains in saffron from ILIV. They instantly update this living room and the grey wall paint works well with the grey leaf design. Add a few cushions in the same design or pick another print in similar colours to complement the scheme. Shown here is Mr Fish, Ditto and Lilja as before, all from ILIV.
5. Create a focal point in a bedroom with a rug
Rugs are one of the best – and often the most great value – ways to add pattern and colour to a room and this bedroom is a great example of how it can work. The electric blue walls act as a blank canvas, the Inigo geometric rug is the main decorative aspect in the room and the throws on the bed in the same colours bring the look together. The white bedding and bedside table successfully add balance whilst the lamp is perfect for adding zingy colour pops.
