Garage organization is a bit of a thankless task – it needs to be done but what joy do you get out of sorting out your DIY tools or finding the best way to store your bikes? Not much in our opinion. But when we saw these garage storage ideas on Ikea, we were like, yes, this is how a garage should look! Practical sure, but also a really stylish space that's actually nice to spend time in.
Keep scrolling for some top organization (and styling) tips you can recreate in your garage, and for more garage storage ideas check out our full feature.
1. Discover the joys of pegboard
Surely, by now you will know we are big advocates of pegboard. It's just the perfect way to store smaller bits that would otherwise clutter up you surface spaces. The Ikea Skadis pegboard is great because you can get add ons like pots and shelves to make everything even more organized. Pop one (or five) on your garage wall to keep everything easy to access.
2. Turn your garden furniture in to indoor furniture
Most of us have to store our garden furniture in the garage but rather than just stacking it all up and throwing tarpaulin over it, use it in your garage. You'll need a place to perch while you do the odd DIY job, plus it just looks much nicer if it's still in use. You can use the table top as a work space too or as extra storage – note the baskets.
3. Use a trolley as a portable DIY trolley
Much like pegboard, the humble trolley is something we have gushed about many a time. They are great for garage organization too because you can clearly see where everything is on the shelves, plus it's portable so you can move it around the space with you. We think it would make for a great bike repair station.
4. Treat your garage like an extension of your home
And by that we mean decorate it! Paint it a nice color so it feels more inviting, pick a scheme for your storage that fits with your style, string up some festoon lights! Garages don't need to be sad, damp places, filled with sports equipment and Christmas decor. Sure, make them practical spaces, but make them stylish too!
