What’s inside the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress?
Memory foam or gel memory foam? Springs or no springs? As mattress technology continues to improve, it can leave buyers at a loss on which mattress material combination is the best. After some time spent on the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress, it feels like the folks at DreamCloud landed on the right design and combination of materials for a phenomenal night of sleep.
So, let me break it down. The top cover is cashmere and quilted foam so it’s soft to touch. The second layer is gel memory foam which differs from memory foam in that it has cooling gels or gel beads. This results in the same beneficial qualities of memory foam – in that the foam molds around your body and relieves pressure points. However, gel memory foam has the added benefit of removing body heat while you sleep, which memory foam doesn’t do.
The next two layers work to prevent sleepers from feeling their partner move in the middle of the night. The third layer is a foam layer that ensures your body doesn’t sink too far into the gel memory foam. It works in conjunction with the fourth layer – innerspring coils that are individually wrapped. The coils allow airflow through the mattress keeping you cool, and by individually wrapping them, it prevents the vibrations of someone moving on the bed from traveling to other sleepers.
The bottom layer is another foam layer that keeps all the other layers in line providing you with the best sleep experience night after night.
For the sustainable and eco-friendly-minded buyers, you’ll be glad to know that DreamCloud’s foams are up to CertiPUR-US® standards which means they don’t have ozone depleters, PBDEs, TDCPP or TCEP (“Tris”) flame retardants, mercury, lead, heavy metals, formaldehyde, phthalates regulated by the CPSC, and chlorofluorocarbons.
What's the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid like to sleep on?
My mattress arrived rolled up compactly in a box. Unfortunately, the folks at FedEx left it at the bottom of my front porch stairs so I had to push it up the steps on my own and into my house. It’s not light by any means (and FedEx should have left it on my porch as their service is supposed to do!), but I managed to stand it up on my own, then roll it step by step until I got it into my home. Two people could handle this job well enough, but even I – a 165-lb, 5’5” woman -- managed to push it up the stairs and slide it to my guest room without much trouble.
The box opened at the top or the bottom, so after cutting the tape, I was able to pull out the mattress, which was still rolled in a plastic covering. Since I know how quickly a rolled-up mattress can unravel, I placed it on the bed so that when I cut through the double layers of plastic, it would be easy to adjust.
I used scissors to cut through the plastic, which took all but a few minutes to do. The mattress unraveled slowly and methodically, which I appreciated as I've seen horror bloopers of mattresses springing open and hitting new owners. Unfortunately, I didn’t pay close enough attention when I placed the mattress on my platform bed frame as it unraveled upside down and backwards.
I was able to tell the topside of the mattress because DreamCloud put blue strips of fabric that have information printed about the mattress on the bottom edge of the top side of the mattress. Even though it was a queen-sized mattress and 15 inches in height, I didn’t have any trouble turning it over and maneuvering the mattress on my own. The handles on the side helped tremendously, and because of DreamCloud's promise of top-quality design that won't break down (and if it does, I have a lifetime warranty), I won't ever need to turn the mattress.
With some mattresses on the market, people report plastic odors, but that was not my experience with the DreamCloud Hybrid Luxury Mattress. It took less than 30 minutes for the mattress to expand to its full height of 15 inches – which is pretty tall. This mattress can be used on any type of bed frame: adjustable, divan, foundation, or platform. While you could put this on top of a box spring, it would make your bed quite tall.
I have a platform bed without a box spring, and the change in height was quite noticeable. My bed height is now two feet tall which is a comfortable position to get in and out of the bed. Though my queen-sized sheets fit this queen-sized mattress perfectly, the queen-sized comforter that I have isn't quite wide enough for my liking, and only barely hides the sheets and mattresses underneath as long as I adjust it to be perfectly even on both sides. When I placed a king-sized comforter on the mattress, it looked a lot better.
Since the mattress expanded so quickly, I hopped onto the mattress within an hour of opening. It felt the same to me an hour after opening the package as it did the first night that I slept on it – wonderful. From the first moment that I laid on the mattress, I understood exactly why it’s called DreamCloud.
Full disclosure, I’ve always preferred mattresses that are on the firmer side. I sleep on my side and stomach, so they provide me with the support I need. Memory foam mattresses have never provided me with enough support, and I sink too far in so that I wake up with an aching lower back. That was not my experience with the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress. It provided a full night of support, and though I wouldn't describe it as "firm" by any means, it wasn't soft either, but provided that Goldilock's sleep experience of "just right."
As someone who has slept on a lot of luxury mattresses (my job for the last three years sent me to luxury hotels all around the world), the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid is definitely among the top three mattresses that I’ve ever slept on. Even though studies show that your body needs a minimum of 30 nights to allow your body to adjust to a new mattress, mine did not. My body took to this mattress immediately.
On the DreamCloud website, the mattress has a 6.5 firmness rating out of 10 and I would agree. No matter if I slept on my back, side, or stomach, I felt supported on all sides and didn’t ‘fall’ into the mattress. I enjoyed the quilted foam top which cushioned my legs and hips throughout the night. I do move in my sleep on lesser mattresses, but with this mattress, I tended to wake up each morning in the same position that I fell asleep in.
I wanted to see exactly how the motion transfer worked on this mattress, so I had a friend visit and lay down on one side. We both noted that we could barely feel when the other moved. I also placed a water bottle on one side of the bed and walked around on the other side of the mattress. I was glad to discover that the water bottle didn’t fall over as I walked on the mattress.
The DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress advertises how the innerspring coils and gel memory foam design keep sleepers cool at night. I can attest this to be true. I never woke up in a sweat or too hot. If anything, I woke up feeling a bit cooler than I like.
I’m one of those people who like to read and sometimes work on my laptop in bed but I can’t do this with most mattresses as it eventually hurts my back. I'm glad to say that I never had this issue with the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress. Day or night, it’s comfortable and supportive which is the most important thing about a mattress in my opinion.
What do you get for your money?
You could read a thousand reviews about a mattress online but none of that matters until you experience a full night’s sleep on that mattress. DreamCloud understands this and if for any reason you’re not satisfied with the mattress, they offer free returns and full refunds – for get this: for up to 365 nights! Where most mattress brands offer a 100-day testing period for customers, DreamCloud allows you the opportunity to sleep on this mattress for a full year and if you’re not satisfied within that time, you can send it back for free and get a full refund.
Actually, the policy is even better than that. The 365-night trial doesn’t actually begin until 30 days after your mattress arrives, as studies have shown that it takes 30 days for your body to adjust to a new mattress. Effectively the 365-night policy is more like 395 days. You’ll also be happy to know that if you want to return your mattress, DreamCloud will work with you to get your mattress donated to a local organization in your community.
On top of all that, DreamCloud mattress owners have a lifetime warranty which means that DreamCloud guarantees that their products will hold up for the rest of your life. That's the type of assuredness that any mattress buyer will appreciate.
Ordering and Delivery
Once you add the mattress to your cart, DreamCloud will reserve it for 10 minutes. The mattress ships within 14-21 business days (so three to five weeks) and arrives packaged in a box.
How does the DreamCloud Hybrid Luxury Mattress rate online?
People are picky when it comes to mattresses, but they seem to very much like the DreamCloud Hybrid Luxury Mattress. On the DreamCloud website, they have a 4.6 out of 5-star rating with over 2,600 reviews. However, on Google, I did notice that the mattress received a 3.8 out of a 5-star rating from over 2,400 reviews. The low-rated reviews on Google tend to be more focused on shipping issues during the pandemic and not the mattress itself. With that in mind, I’m inclined to lean toward the 4.6 rating for this mattress.
Is the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress worth it?
My goal with this review was to showcase that the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid Mattress is an easy and sound purchase to make, but if I haven’t conveyed that thoroughly let me say: go buy it now.
The use of “cloud” and “luxury” in the title of this mattress is not just marketing-speak. Sleeping on this mattress feels like a luxurious experience most closely associated with that of sleeping on a cloud. I experienced the right blend of firmness and softness in this mattress and it ensured that I received seven to eight hours of good, non-restless sleep each night I slept on it.
In terms of price, this mattress is pretty competitive. DreamCloud often has phenomenal deals – like $200 off their mattresses combined with free sheets, pillow, and mattress protector – so keep your eye out for those!
If for any reason you don’t have the same experience that I have had with this mattress, you can return it and get a full refund within 395 days of receiving it. That’s how confident DreamCloud is that you’re going to love their Luxury Hybrid Mattress.
